It is hardly surprising that the important and prominent city of Barcelona is full of many spectacular monuments and landmarks, many of which were built for the famous Barcelona Expo held in 1888.

Some of these monuments date back hundreds of years and are in remarkable condition. Here are some of the top Barcelona landmarks to visit.




Barcelona Landmarks and MonumentsBarcelona Landmarks: Font Màgica (Magic Fountain) - Passeig Maria Cristina, Barcelona, 08004, Spain
The original Barcelona fountain of magic was built for the 1888 Expo World Fair in Ciutadella Park. Determined to improve on their previous effort, a subsequent fountain was designed and constructed for Barcelona's 1929 World Expo. This fountain has become a real landmark in Barcelona and is situated near Montjuïc. With coloured light shining through the water, the Barcelona Magic Fountain almost appears to dance and is quite mesmerising. Espanya is the nearest train station.

Barcelona Landmarks: Arc de Triomf - Passeig Luís Companys, s/n, Barcelona, 08002, Spain
The Arc de Triomf in Barcelona was the gateway to the famous 1888 Expo World Fair and there are statues of women on the sides of the arch, symbolising fame. There are other detailed stone carvings and also a coats of arms, which represents all of the Spanish provinces, with Barcelona in the centre. The nearest train stop is the Arc de Triomf station.

Barcelona's Torre de Collserola stands at 288 metres / 944 feet high and offers wonderful panoramic views of the city and beyond. Built for the Olympic Games in 1992, the Torre de Collserola is situated on the top of Collserola hill and is reached by using the funicular railway.
Landmark open: Monday to Friday - 11:00 to 13:30 and 15:30 to 18:00
Saturday and Sunday - 11:00 to 18:00

Barcelona Landmarks: Tibidabo - Plaça del Tibidabo, Barcelona, Spain
Tibidabo is the summit of Collserola hill and is home to the city's only amusement park (Parc d'Atraccions), with over 30 exciting rides. The park is a good mix of traditional rides and high-tech attractions. It is spread over several levels around the hilltop and is connected by a series of landscaped pathways and gardens. With some fantastic views of the city below, Tibidabo also features the Museo de Autómatas (Mechanical Museum), a modern church and a popular restaurant situated just outside of the amusement park. Tibidabo is easy to reach by bus or on the Funicular del Tibidabo railway.
